Abstract. Current trends in the global aluminum market can be characterized as unfavorable. One of the factors hindering the development of the domestic non-ferrous metallurgy is the low level of innovation activity of enterprises. Prevailing conditions contribute to enhancing innovation activity of companies. In addition to using a wide range of tools for the development of the industry RUSAL holds an effective policy of innovative development of its production. However, in order to overcome existing barriers to the development of the sector requires the active participation of the state.
