The paper deals with the main approaches of demographic policy of the Soviet State in the Far East in the 70-80-ies of XX century, highlights the main methods of its implementation. The author analyzes the demographic development of the region, gives the data of its demographic potential. On the basis of historical experience, the author proves the necessity of the use of the mechanism of maintenance of natural reproduction of the far Eastern population for the purposes of the state policy in the far East.
