The paper deals with the problem of psycho-pedagogical and psycholinguistic features of the development of speech of younger students during the training period. When mastering speech a word for a child is only a signal that directs indicative activities in relation to sensible objects to them so that the result is their convergence, equating to one another in certain respects and at the same time distinguish them from other, superficially similar to these objects. A word is a mean of education and expression of ideas, opinions, reflections of objects and phenomena in consciousness. It is one of the central mental functions, has decisive influence on the formation of personality, thinking. That is why the main task of the school course is the mother tongue language development of students, which should be inextricably linked to the development of thinking, because thinking and speaking are deeply interconnected. The educational process in a modern school has many opportunities to address the problems that worry experts. These features are not used to the full, as evidenced by the contradictions that are considered in this study.

The paper deals with the problem of availability of today's educators, primary school teachers to use the variety of teaching methods and techniques of speech development of younger s in the course pupils different types of speech activity. The modern teacher should have sufficient theoretical and practical experience in working with younger pupils to use it in the various kinds of speech activity. The paper provides significant amount of work methods and techniques that are used in the work of teachers with younger school children. We use the analogy method, when students model phrases and sentences. The analogy is one of the analytical methods for teaching and learning the Ukrainian language, which is to established in similarities between the phenomena, objects, concepts. It is used for explanation of a new stage based on a material with partial similarity by comparing the known concepts. Verbal literacy method is widely used in work on the development of oral speech during. This method can be implemented using a variety of techniques (interview, story, message, reasoning). The effectiveness of the elementary school teacher will depend on how well and it will be appropriate to use them in work with children.
The article is devoted to the problem of situational anxiety in primary school age children with mental retardation; the results of the study level of situational anxiety in primary school children with mental retardation.
