The paper discusses the main aspects of teaching theory of probability and mathematical statistics for students majoring in jurisprudence. The authors formulate the aims and objectives of the introduction of the stochastic component of the mathematics course, determine how to achieve these goals through the implementation of an applied orientation of teaching mathematics and the inclusion of students in active cognitive activity during the performance of laboratory and practical work, solving problems and applied exercises.

The paper is devoted to the principle of applied-ness in the study of mathematics on economic specialties in higher educational institutions. To this end, it is revealed what is meant by a focus on practical application of teaching mathematics. On the example of studying some crystals of linear algebra shows how this principle can be implemented on lectures and seminars.

The paper considers the question of influence of applied orientation of stochastics training on the formation and development of probabilistic thinking and probabilistic and statistical representations of pupils. The authors present analysis of the survey results at senior level of formation of representations about the application potential of mathematics in terms of the use of mathematical ideas and methods in the field of future professional interests of graduates of high school non-mathematical sections.

The paper analyzes the textbooks used at Mathematics lessons at technical universities to reveal problems and exercises of applied nature. The analyses is implemented on the example of the section "Definite integral and its applications". The authors singles out the main types of tasks that, according to the authors, should be included in textbooks and problem books on mathematics, aimed at students of technical specialties.
