Training in a magistracy is an important step to becoming a professional researcher. Scientific-research work of students is carried out from positions of the competence-based approach, which is a concept of organization of educational process, in which the goal of learning is the acquisition of the totality of the necessary competences for the student as a future specialist. The article proves the competence approach in the organization of research work with students in the direction 110100 – Agrochemistry and soil science. Revealed conceptual approaches to implementation of requirements of the state educational standard of higher professional education on the implementation of research work with students. The analysis focuses on the theoretical aspects of the competence-based approach, commitment to its implementation on the part of teachers and students, evaluation Toolkit efficiency of the approach, including by regulatory authori-ties.

The paper considers the problem of assessing the level of formation of students’ organization competences using distance learning technologies. The author establishes the mathematical model for evaluating the level of formation of competences, taking into account the structure of the existing e-learning courses in distance learning system of Nosov’s Magnitogorsk State Technical University. The basic provisions technologies assessing level of formation competences of students are revealed.

Forming cartographic competence of future teachers of geography is an actual problem of modern vocational education. The paper discusses the importance of cartographic expertise in teacher professional development, discloses the contents of cartographic competence and modern educational principles of the organization of educational process in higher educational institution conditions. Personality oriented approach is defined as the major one in the basic justification of methodological bases of the formation of cartographic competence of future teachers of geography.
