The article discusses the major milestones of entering "Russian text" in the cultural area of China. The focus is on contemporary cross-cultural relations between Russia and China. The most important symbolic elements of urban space and the associated marginal phenomena are considered. The influence of tradition on the formation of marginal spaces, as well as their significance for the urban traditions themselves, is noted. The novelty of the study is seen in the fact that the problem of marginality in urban culture is actualized in relation to tradition, transferred to the sphere of science of tradition.
