The article shows in general terms the history of the establishment of the Department of Foreign Languages at the Karelian State Pedagogical Institute, names the reasons that led to the organization of the Department of Foreign Languages at the Karelian State Pedagogical Institute. The research presents the fruitful activities of the founder and the first dean of Foreign Languages Department Mayme Sevander and highlights the role of the rector of the Karelian State Pedagogical Institute Petr Ihalinen in its establishment.
