A review of articles and studies of domestic and foreign literature is presented, the materials of which touch upon the relatively new concept of English as a Medium of Instruction or simply English Medium Instruction (EMI). It means "English as a means of teaching academic disciplines" in countries and regions, where English is not the national language. The main problems faced by teachers and students when using the EMI tool are listed, as well as the consequences of the introduction of EMI in the field of teaching, assessment and professional development of teachers and students.
