The article examines the functions of the allusive onym "Mumka" in the story by M.A. Osorgin. The linguistic means of creating a literary parody of an animal character are also characterized in this article. The idiostyle features of the writer's literature manner in the study of the story are noted. We have established an importance of the intertextual connection between the story "Mumka" and the prose of I.S. Turgenev. In particular, between the stories "Mumka" and "Mumu".
The article is devoted to the phraseology of the Russian and English languages. Phraseology is a special branch of linguistics, since the study of the phraseological composition of a language allows you to learn more about the life of its native speakers. This study is aimed at conducting a comparative analysis of the phraseological units of the English and Russian languages with the zoonym "cat" in order to find out how this concept is reflected in the Russian and English pictures of the world. Within the framework of the study, a corpus of 30 Russian and 30 English phraseological units was formed for the analysis. As a result of the study, it turned out that there are both similarities and differences in the perception of the zoonym „cat“ by Russian and English native speakers.
