The data on changes in specific energy consumption by mankind throughout its existence are presented, as well as the structure of energy consumption at the present time, including for environmentally friendly – renewable energy sources, the main problems associated with and are the causes of increasing energy consumption.

The potential for improving the energy efficiency of diesel generation really exists and can be estimated in real money. Reducing the fuel component is one of the priorities. This article discusses the problems and possible options for the modernization and reconstruction of diesel generation, including the positive experience of JSC «Sakhaenergo» of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

In 2023, the energy problems department Larionov Institute of the Physical-technical Problems of the North celebrated its 65th anniversary. This article briefly presents the experience of the department for system research on the development of energy in the Northern region, including integrated energy supply systems, in addressing the challenges of development and operational management. The paper considers the power supply systems of 13 districts of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), which are part of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. One of the main problems of energy in the Arctic territories of the republic is the remoteness of territories, underdevelopment of infrastructure, obsolescence of equipment, which entails a high cost of energy production. The exploited renewable energy sources are considered. The calculation of fuel economy during the introduction of SES to the operated DES in the Arctic regions of the republic was carried out. Active and passive ways of reducing heat energy losses are given.
