The article deals with the problem of evaluation of educational achievements of students in the implementa-tion of the competence approach in education. The main change in the assessment of personality, metasub-ject and subject learning outcomes in basic general education are examined in the article. The possibilities of using portfolio techniques as a cumulative assessment in schools and universities are presented.

The article describes new approaches to foreign language teaching in secondary schools and universities proclaimed by the new Education Act in Russia, new Federal State Educational Standards. The author emphasizes the importance of continuity in foreign language teaching analyzes new demands and challenges in teaching foreign languages and illustrates the process by examples of experience in realizing the tasks of foreign language teaching in Ryazan State University named after S. Esenin.

The paper discusses the research activities of students as a mechanism for achievement meta-subject results of general education. The object is currently important in the framework of new approaches to general education. The author focuses on the relevance of the acquisition of this competence in the modern information society. The paper describes the stages of formation of research skills at the stage of primary and secondary education.
The article described the process of professional and creative development of students as the leading content-methodological component system of personal and professional development of future professionals. The necessity of integrating the requirements of GEF IN and professional standard, defined initial methodological postulates of specialist training in higher education, ensuring the effectiveness of professional and creative development of the personality of the future specialist, proposed and experimentally tested system of gradual progressive, progressive development of the creative potential of the individual, analyzed the dynamics of development of professionally significant personality traits of students on an example of the direction of training "Social work".
