This article analyzes the features of modern Russian society political culture and its main determinants. Internal contradictions of Russian political culture and its contradictions to the construction of a democratic regime and the development of democratic institutions in modern Russia are also revealed. Elimination of these contradictions is necessary for the harmonious development of Russian state and society. It necessitates the establishment of such political culture in Russia that will combine democracy and preservation of historically recognized traditional political orientations of Russians.

In this article, the author defines the main features of political cultures in Russia and Italy and makes their comparative analysis. Despite the fact that Russian and Italian societies belong to different civilizations and there are great differences in historical development of Russia and Italy, the comparative analysis revealed some common features and justifications were given to them. The experience of the political culture formation in modern Italy will be useful for the process of the consolidated political culture formation in modern Russian society.

He determines not only the features of the political cultures of the East and the West, but also their manifestations in Russian political culture, their dichotomy, interconnection and contradictions in it. This dichotomy is primarily due to the unique geographical position of Russia and natural historical processes.
