The article reveals the connection between the pedagogical heritage of K.D. Ushinsky with the research of the scientific and pedagogical school of Ryazan State University named after S.A. Esenin. The main ideas of the great teacher about the younger generation upbringing, the meaning of life, the goals and methods of education, the nationality in education, the connection between the family, school and the public, which are relevant for the modern secondary school and university, are considered.
