The research focuses on the materials of newspapers of two political trends describing the conflict in Ukraine. The goal of this study is to identify the patterns of the use of lexical units in politically oriented American publications available in the Russian Federation. The hypothesis of our work is to identify the use of emotionally colored lexical units by the liberal media: epithets, metaphors, comparisons and neutrality of linguistic units in the materials of conservative media. As a consequence of this study, we aim to validate our hypothesis that liberal newspapers in the U.S. employ various forms of expression, whereas conservative newspapers tend to approach event commentary with more restraint.
