Language learners are often encouraged to watch films in the original, and films have served as a means of improving learners’ language skills for many years. In a foreign language lesson, it is usually an instructor who chooses what students should watch. The aim of this article is to demonstrate that sometimes it is better to encourage student choice by letting each student choose a film to watch in order to spark students’ motivation, increase their participation, and assist them in becoming independent learners. In 2021, second-year students of the Institute of Foreign Languages were allowed to choose films themselves, and this article includes the conclusions on student choice encouragement made by their English language instructor.

This paper considers the interactive educational technologies which are intensively implemented in teaching foreign languages. These technologies provide more effective learning, stimulate active interaction, and contribute to the development of various skills in students. The aim of the article is to demonstrate the importance of Internet-based teaching methodology at schools and their impact on the process of formation of teacher competence, getting acquainted with the concept of "interactive technologies," considering its advantages, giving examples of its use, analyzing its effectiveness, and summarizing the results. The article is based on a review of the current state of the art of interactive educational technology.
