The article focuses on the importance of developing sociocultural competence at all stages of learning English as a foreign language. Everyone should be able to express themselves correctly and competently in the target language in order to avoid interethnic conflict. In ESL lessons each teacher can choose their own way of immersing in the culture of the country of the language learnt, what we offer is a wide use of various authentic materials. Taking into account the fast-developing world and psychological peculiarities of modern man we emphasise the design of lessons on authentic articles, videos, etc. on the Miro board, which entails not only the convenience and speed of lesson creation by the teacher but also reflects the increased interest in the study of socio-cultural aspect in foreign language lessons.

There are a lot of challenges of teaching English as a foreign language in limited-time school environment, typical for Russian secondary education. With students having only three classes per week and no natural language environment, the efficiency is paramount. At the beginning of the lesson, it is essential to immerse students in the artificial English environment. The strategy is to use animated cartoons during the warming-up lesson stage to achieve the educational goals. Carefully selected cartoon videos can introduce a new topic, help to revise previously learnt materials, and develop speaking, listening and grammar skills from the very start. This approach not only increases students’ motivation and engagement by leveraging familiar media, but also effectively prepares learners for real-life communication.
