The article examines possibilities of increasing the efficiency of Medium Voltage Overhead Power Lines в High North. Under normal operating conditions, analysis identified high power loss and limited transmission capacity as key issues. In response to these issues, proposed upgrades consist of conductors being replaced by self-supporting insulated conductors (SIP), the voltage being raised from 6 kV to 10 kV, installation of compensating devices, along with upgrading transformer substations. The economic study indicated that losses in power were reduced by 15–20 % and capacity increased by 25–30 % with payback periods of 5–7 years. The results obtained can be used in the design and modernisation of overhead power lines to minimise power losses in the harsh conditions of the Far North.

This paper presents a comprehensive study justifying the replacement of obsolete and physically deteriorated oil circuit breakers (OCBs) of the VMP-10 series with modern vacuum circuit breakers (VCBs) of the BB/TEL-10 series at the Yakutskaya State District Power Plant (GRES). The research methodology included an analysis of the technical condition of the existing switchgear, short-circuit current calculations, verification of equipment for thermal and electrodynamic stability, reliability analysis, and an assessment of economic efficiency.
