This article describes reconstruction of relay protection and automation (RPA) systems for an autotransformer at a 220 kV substation. It provides an assessment of the RPA system today, a case for modernization, and options for equipment. The analysis entails the quantitative characteristics of the calculated protection, as well as the economic feasibility of introducing domestic microprocessor-based protection devices. The article describes the basic principles of relay protection, its functional features, and the effectiveness of modern solutions.

This paper presents a comprehensive study justifying the replacement of obsolete and physically deteriorated oil circuit breakers (OCBs) of the VMP-10 series with modern vacuum circuit breakers (VCBs) of the BB/TEL-10 series at the Yakutskaya State District Power Plant (GRES). The research methodology included an analysis of the technical condition of the existing switchgear, short-circuit current calculations, verification of equipment for thermal and electrodynamic stability, reliability analysis, and an assessment of economic efficiency.
