The article addresses the issue of insufficient reading skills in English among Russian students who are non-native speakers. It is noted that traditional reading instruction often fails to provide adequate motivation and results due to its detachment from students' professional interests. The objective of this study is to develop an intensive tutoring approach for fostering reading skills among such students. The scientific novelty lies in the application of individualized tutor support to intensify reading instruction. The reliability of the findings is confirmed by research data, indicating that an individualized approach improves students' reading performance by up to two standard deviations. Examples from Russian practice are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of intensive tutoring. The results suggest that the proposed methodology contributes to the development of text comprehension and enhances students' motivation.

This article looks at how scientific articles as can be used to teach EAP reading skills. Studying nature of scientific papers of the math field in EAP lessons, instructors can help pre-service teachers better comprehend, analyze, and think critically about academic texts.
