THE ROLE OF SPECIALLY PROTECTED NATURAL AREAS IN THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN ARCTIC AREAS (ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE NIZHNEKOLYMSKY REGION OF THE REPUBLIC OF SAKHA YAKUTIA) // Научно-методический электронный журнал «Концепт». – 2025. – . – URL: http://e-koncept.ru/2025/0.htm
This article examines the contribution of the system of specially protected natural areas to achieving sustainable development goals. As an example, the system of specially protected natural areas of the Nizhnekolymsky district of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is considered as an Arctic territory that includes vast land and sea areas. The study region is characterized by the presence of vulnerable ecosystems, as well as unique biological diversity, rare species of flora and fauna, and local population engaged in a traditional way of life. The study takes into account the presence of current and potential environmental threats in the region, their brief description is provided. The prospects for tourism development in the protected areas of the studied region and the potential consequences of such activities in protected areas are briefly considered. Visual cartographic material has been developed to visualize the system of specially protected natural areas of the studied region.

The Falcipennis falcipennis is among the rarest and least-studied grouse birds of the Russian Far East. A distinctive anatomical trait of the species is the pronounced tapering of the outer primary feathers – a feature reflected in its binomial nomenclature. Behavioral observations indicate that this bird is highly sedentary, primarily terrestrial in locomotion, and exceptionally cryptic. Vocalizations are exceedingly rare, rendering it one of the least acoustically active avian species in the taiga ecosystem. Notably, the Falcapennis falcapennis exhibits minimal flight response to human presence; individuals typically retreat slowly on foot or ascend to the nearest conifer without displaying overt agitation. Despite this apparent tameness, the species demonstrates extreme sensitivity to anthropogenic disturbance. The present study aims to refine the current understanding of the species’ distribution in southern Yakutia, assess the condition of its key habitats, and identify limiting factors affecting its range.
