The article summarizes the experience of teaching Russian short story and film at an American university from the point of view of intercultural communication.

Anton Pavlovich Chekhov is an outstanding Russian writer and playwright whose works had a significant impact on the development of both Russian and world literature. The article examines the innovative aspects of his prose and drama, as well as Chekhov's influence on foreign authors and his place in the context of the world literary tradition. Through analysis of key elements of his style, such as the psychological depth of the characters, the use of subtext and an emphasis on everyday life, the article emphasizes the importance of Chekhov as a precursor of modernism and existentialism. Chekhov's influence can be traced in the works of many great 20th century authors, such as Francis Scott Fitzgerald, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Henrik Ibsen and others. In the article we make an attempt to explore cross-cultural connections through literary analyses and highlight the importance of Checkov’s legacy abroad.
