The article summarizes the experience of teaching Russian short story and film at an American university from the point of view of intercultural communication.

This article deals with the difficultieswith C1 exercises in the process of working with foreign textbooks. In the process of learning English in universities, textbooks of foreign publishers such as Macmillan, Pearson, Cambridge are often used.The conclusion was made, that the frequent difficulties faced by students of the pedagogical university are associated with a lack of understanding of the information context or insufficient ability to analyze the material and competently, fully perform the tasks on the text.

Abstract. The paper explores the issues of cultural identity, and how cultural differences affect learning English language. The relationship between cultural identity and foreign language learning has been the focus for many researchers. There is an assumption that it can solve the problems caused by cultural differences, assist learners grasp the crux of the language, and develop their English language skills. Based on the analysis, we propose the ideas how to incorporate the elements of Northern indigenous cultures in teaching and learning English language.

This article describes modern conditions for the development of intercultural communication, the basis of which is the formation of sociocultural competence. A brief overview of the definition of the concepts is proposed. Recommendations on the organization forms of conducting classes are given. The examples of tasks in order to form the socio-cultural competence of students at a foreign language lessons are presented.
