Boris Akunin’s novel ‘Azazel’, known as ‘The Winter Queen’ in its English version, has been translated into many languages. This article focuses on the translation of its first chapter into English, French, and German. The authors of this article compare the source text with the target texts to discover linguistic differences that commonly occur when a source text is translated into another language. These linguistic differences can lead to the alteration of meaning or even loss of meaning in the target texts, which is evident in the examples that the authors have included in this article. Besides, the authors suggest the reasons that might have predetermined translators’ linguistic choices. They also attempt to predict how these choices affect readers’ understanding of the text.

The article delves into the toponymy and translation of geographical names from Yakut to English based on an analysis of materials gathered within the Sirius Summer project framework. The study has identified that a predominant feature of Yakutia's toponymy lies in the influence exerted by languages spoken by various Northern ethnic groups on the etymology of numerous place names. It has been ascertained that geographical terms denoting natural landmarks in Yakutia often encapsulate historical events and exhibit traits indicative of natural features.

The main objective of the current research article is to delve into the challenges that arise in the process of the translation of the prohibitions-charms used in the indigenous people Evenk hunting rituals into English language. In this study, the focus is aimed on understanding of the distinctive cultural elements and importance of these rituals, while also addressing to the linguistic and cul-tural obstacles that translators can face when they make attempts to accurately convey their significance. By thoroughly analyzing the complexities involved in translating these charms, the article makes a valuable contribution in the field of linguistic studies and intercultural communication.

The article is devoted to the study of linguocultural adaptation of a fiction text on the example of Leo Tolstoy’s novel “Anna Karenina”. It analyses the influence of cultural peculiarities on the process of translation of fiction texts, peculiarities of realia translation and ways of their transfer into other languages. The aim of the work is to study the theoretical foundations of linguocultural adaptation and to conduct a practical analysis of the adaptation of the novel “Anna Karenina” into English and Chinese. The results of the study show the differences in approaches to the realia adaptation, which can be useful for the development of new methods in the fields of translation studies.
