Gymnastics in Russian gymnasia in end of XIX – the beginning of XX centuries

Abstract. In first gymnasia, which had appeared in Ancient Greece, gymnastics was the basic subject. Later the leading part of gymnastics has been lost. The paper is devoted to the question of teaching the gymnastics in Russian pre-revolutionary gymnasia and to changes of the role of this subject in an educational rate of Russian gymnasium during the evolution of this educational establishment.
