Abstract. The interrelation between the environmental regulation and the competitiveness in the global market is the important research issue. The author analyzes the selected approaches of measuring this interrelation, offered by different researchers in various periods. It is shown that the interrelation has been measured on the basis of the two hypotheses: “pollution haven hypothesis” and “factor endowments hypothesis”. The detailed analysis of the first hypothesis is given using the results from the earlier empirical studies.
