The article attempts to consider the Shrovetide festival as a cultural text. The cultural text does not appear as an implementation of a message in any one language, but as a complex device that stores the diverse codes of Russian culture, able to transform received messages and generate new ones, like an information generator with the features of an intellectual phenomenon.
