Ruban F. D. ARCHITECTURE AND PAINTING OF RUSSIA IN THE 18TH – EARLY 20TH CENTURIES: THE FORMATION OF NATIONAL TRADITION IN THE CONTEXT OF EUROPEAN INFLUENCES // Научно-методический электронный журнал «Концепт». – 2026. – . – URL: http://e-koncept.ru/2026/0.htm
From the 18th century up to the early 20th, the Russian artistic world is characterized by a complex interplay of historical traditions and innovations, driven by large-scale changes in culture and society. The reforms of Peter I completely transform the appearance of Russian architecture and painting, which become a space for the introduction of European artistic concepts. Peter the Great actively attracts foreign masters of architecture, who bring elements of Baroque and Classicism styles into Russian culture. At the same time, a painting school is formed in Russia, primarily in the portrait genre. Foreign masters significantly influence the formation of Russian art in the 18th-19th centuries; however, it is their interaction with Russian artists that becomes the foundation for a unique synthesis. Thus, the development of architecture and painting in Russia at the turn of the 18th-20th centuries represents a process of interaction between European artistic models and national tradition. This period becomes the foundation for the further formation of Russian artistic identity, making it a key stage in the history of national art.
