Abstract. The author proposes the method of teaching students dealing with the economy with the part of the proba-bility theory concerning the discrete and continuous distributions. Particular model of the stream of tele-phone calls lead to the discrete and continuous distributions. With the example of Poisson and exponential distribution we can see how one can use the comparison of different types of distribution to achieve the best understanding and remember their features.
