The author attempts to analyze the socio-cultural foundation of the political process in modern Scotland, in light of scientific approaches to understanding ethnicity and national identity. The article substantiates the conclusion that the determining factor of political change in the relationship between Holyrood and Westminster was the revival of Scottish national identity, which supporters of the British nation chauvinism prefer to be called "nationalism." In contrast, the term the authors suggest using the term "ethnicity" (ethnicity Scots), which, in their view, more consistent with the historical and political realities of Scotland. The authors believe that it is ethnicity is one of the most important socio-cultural foundations of the political process in modern Scotland.
