The difficult financial and economic situation in recent years in Russia, which has devel-oped under the influence of sanctions pressure, leads to a gradual slowdown in the economy of both the state as a whole and its territories individually. In these circumstances, the issue of ensuring the budgetary security of the region is one of the key tasks for each subject of the Russian Federation. The article presents a point-rating assessment of the budget security of the regions of the Northwestern Federal District. In the course of the study, the causes of budget risks in public legal entities were identified.
