This article deals with the experience of studying the names of clothing, which are Church Slavonic by origin, on the example of Holy Scripture texts. It is clarified, in which way clothing being a reflection of the social status of a person, becomes a spiritually meaningful sign. The appearance of the symbolic meaning of clothing names is observed. Further it is determined, in which way symbolic meaning becoming a part of the cognitive picture of the world makes its influence on the language consciousness.

The purpose of the publication is a historical analysis of the emergence and development of one of the most important types of accessories for clothing, footwear, haberdashery – zippers. The historical stages and twists and turns of this development are revealed. The classification of types of these fasteners, their advantages and disadvantages are considered. The information obtained will allow the reader to decide on the choice of a zipper for their future purchase or creation of their own model of outerwear.
