The article summarizes the author’s experience of using various tasks aimed at learning and practicing collocations when teaching English to Education majors – future English language teachers. The role of collocations in a language is analyzed, the need for systematic work with collocations in class is accounted for, examples of various exercises and tasks conducted with the Education majors are given and their educative value is analyzed.
Objective of the article is to prove the usefulness of the lexical approach when working with professionally-oriented text at non-linguistic university. The article considers the basic principles of the lexical approach in foreign language teaching. A list of exercises to work with collocations is presented. The author provides lexical approach usage advice and describes peculiarities of non-linguistic students’ language teaching.
