Transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy was used to study the effect of modification by annealing in air on the morphology, phase composition, and structure of primary particles of nanopowders obtained by grinding natural diamond and detonation synthesis. Stepped annealing of nanopowders was carried out at the following temperatures: 200, 300, 400, 500 and 550 ℃. It was shown that heat treatment in air at temperatures of 400–550 ℃ leads to the removal of structural formations of primary particles of both DND and NND nanopowders consisting mainly of non-diamond carbon in the sp2 state and amorphous carbon in sp3 state.
