The article is dedicated to the issue of presentation of female job titles, derived from male job titles, to the English-speaking audience. The authors study the materials of explanatory dictionaries of the Russian language as well as training manuals on teaching Russian as a foreign language, and they undertake a detailed analysis of the pair of gender-specific job titles ‘преподаватель’ - ‘преподавательница’, which is the Russian for teacher in masculine and feminine. As a result, the authors come to the conclusion that inofones (i. e. foreign students) should be taught not only the main models of feminitive formation, but also stylistic differences of their use in speech, and the latter aspect is to be emphasized.
This article is aimed at the study of feminitives in the Russian language. The concept of «feminitives» is considered, and various variations in their use and in the possibility of their use in modern Russian are highlighted.
