The article examines the features of the current stage of development of the migration policy of the Russian Federation in the context of the mechanism for protecting the rights of Russian citizens. The main stages of regulation of the sphere of migration are studied, special attention is paid to the issues of external labor migration and the need to develop a more effective system for protecting the interests of Russian citizens. Proposals have been formulated to improve migration legislation, including issues of visa regime, legal status of foreign citizens arriving in the country for employment purposes, and their social integration.
