This article is devoted to the study of metaphors in pop culture. Metaphors have long attracted the attention of linguists. The metaphor is widely used and studied in scientific literature as a linguistic unit, but as a unit of metaphorical spoken language it is little studied. The appeal of various sciences to the problem of metaphors shows the complexity of the nature of this phenomenon. The distinction between language metaphor and speech metaphor is emphasized. Different approaches to the study of metaphors illustrate the diversity and complexity of their analysis in linguistics. The metaphor, working in the form of a dialogue in English, is divided into productive thematic groups. The specific language material shows the variety of functions of the spoken metaphor.
The article is devoted to the work of Leonid Shinkarev «The Old Rynda», the content of which is a description of the travel of the editorial team of the newspaper «Izvestia», which aimed at a journalistic depiction of nature, the customs of the people living in a separately designated region – the vicinity of the great Siberian river Lena. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that the book «The Old Rynda» by Leonid Shinkarev has not previously been the object of attention in literary criticism. As the analysis shows, the travel notes of Leonid Shinkarev, a professional journalist and philologist, have their own characteristics and differences from traditional travel essays, the analysis of which is given in the article.
