The article analyzes the activities of Soviet military helicopter pilots in Afghanistan in the period 1979-1989. It is noted that the performance of combat missions away from places of permanent deployment in isolation from relatives and families imposed an increased burden on the personnel of helicopter units and subunits. In extreme conditions, the aviator warriors fought heroically and independently settled their lives. It shows how life on the front line showed the best qualities of a person in war – endurance, fortitude, cohesion and collectivism.
