The article presents a general description of ship terms that are used in the text of N.K. Zhernakov's novella "To be a Russian Fleet", published in 1958. Information is provided on the frequency of use of individual terms, their distribution by lexical and semantic groups. The role of ship terminology in the transmission of the key idea of the story is shown.
