The article is dedicated to the emergence and development of such a linguistic phenomenon as «abbreviation», as well as to the function of this language phenomenon in modern online communication and in the context of socio-cultural characteristics, in this case, of English language. The article deals with issues related to the history of the origin and distribution of this language element. The authors also give examples of abbreviations that clearly demonstrate the main trends in their use in modern communication in the Internet.
Today the Internet is the most important source of information. Internet resources help to find the necessary information about work or study, order the desired product, exchange information on social networks, make a video call, etc. The constant development of information technology leads to the emergence of a new communication environment – online communication. The Internet Language is mainly represented by colloquial vocabulary, slang, jargon and loan words. A type of Internet slang is the digital language of online communication – Digispeak.
this article examines the structure and typology of students' problematic social media use. C. Marino's "Problematic Use of Social Media" methodology (adapted by N. A. Sirota, D. V. Moskovchenko, and others) was applied to a sample of 54 students. It was found that 62% of students exhibited a moderate level of problematic social media use; the "negative consequences" scale served as the central criterion for this phenomenon. Hierarchical cluster analysis identified three types: adaptive-emotional, compulsive-emotional, and global-dependent. The results are aimed at understanding the psychological risks of the digital environment in students and developing preventive measures.
The article reveals the relationship between the types of digital communication activity of university students and the structural features of their empathy (cognitive, emotional, and intuitive channels), and also determines the presence and nature of the gap between online and offline abilities to recognize emotions. The results of a study conducted on a sample of 1st-4th year students of humanities are presented.
