This article examines various interpretations of the concept of "foreign language communicative competence", pays special attention to the role of phonetic and speech practice stage of the lesson in the development of schoolchildren’s communicative foreign language and phonetic competencies, provides examples of exercises aimed at developing phonetic skills using comparative characteristics of the Enjoy English curriculum for the second, sixth and eleventh grades.
