The article touches upon the issues of forming a professional competence of a future foreign language teacher, that is designing a lesson plan for the English language classroom taking into consideration the demands of the Federal state educational standards and system-based activity approach. The design of the lesson plan should take into account the students’ psychological and individual peculiarities and their disciplinary, metadisciplinary and personal achievements, motivation, goal setting and reflection abilities.
