Socio-economic upheavals and catastrophes play an important role in the development of human society. They cause serious damage to the national economy and demographics. In the presented article, the author tries to determine the demographic "price" of such events. It refers to the total number of premature deaths and unborn children due to a sharp deterioration in the socio-economic situation of citizens during such upheavals. The author proposes a method for quantifying such a "price". The calculations are based on the demographic statistics of Russia, Germany, China and the USA. Nine unfavorable events (wars, revolutions, deepest economic crises, collapse of states) of the 19th and 20th centuries are analyzed. Appropriate comparisons have been made. The article is debatable.
