The article presents a model for assessing the potential risk and safe distances when gas flows out on the above-ground sections of the gas pipeline, taking into account abnormal weather conditions in the North. Abnormal meteorological conditions of the North are characterized by powerful temperature inversions arising during anticyclone due to emission of permafrost soil at extremely low ambient temperatures, and air stagnation conditions. These anomalous conditions affect the dispersion of gas in the atmosphere, contributing to its slowdown and the formation of explosive gas concentrations near the Earth's surface, which can further lead to explosion and fire. The effect of temperature inversion on the excess pressure of the shock wave during the explosion of a cloud of a gas-air mixture of methane is justified. Safe distances under adverse weather conditions were assessed.
