The article deals with the problem of dependence of the EU countries on Russia's energy carriers. For many years, fuel and energy resources have been the basis of Russian exports; at the end of 2021, their share in the structure of domestic exports amounted to 54%. At the same time, over the past twenty years, dependence on these resources has been increasing. European Union is the main consumer of Russian energy resources. In the sense of the current geopolitical crisis and the ongoing sanctions war there are questions about the future of the Russian economy and existing economic ties with Western countries. The authors examine exports of Russian energy resources to the countries of the European Union, evaluate the dependence of these countries on Russian energy sources based on data from the Federal Customs Service, the Federal State Statistics Service and Eurostat. The authors also evaluate the possible losses of the Russian economy in case of a complete embargo on Russian energy resources by EU.
