The article presents the experience of developing a child social protection map in the Smolensk region. As a research tool the map performs diagnostic, analytical and prognostic functions. Key gaps in the provision of social services for families with children have been identified and proposals have been made to improve accessibility. The need to develop flexible formats for working with families in a “silent crisis” is predicted.
