The article deals with the concept of practice-oriented technology. Types of such technologies and teaching methods are given. The article describes the activities carried out within the framework of student tourist bureau functioning on the basis of D.I. Mendeleev Pedagogical Institute of Tobolsk. The conclusion is made about their significant contribution to the improvement of practice-oriented training of university students in the field of service and tourism.

To improve the quality of training of specialists in the field of tourism at TPI named after D.I. Mendeleev, a student tour bureau was created. An important direction of its work is research activities of students. Tobolsk is a member of the Association of Small Tourist Cities of Russia. At present it includes eighteen cities. The study of the peculiarities and problems of functioning of such cities by students will contribute to their successful mastering of professional competences necessary for work in the field of tourism.
