The relevance of the study is associated with the problem of finding optimal ways to increase the effectiveness of teaching Russian as a foreign language at the initial stage of training in a Chinese audience. In order to identify the need to use the native language of students in the assimilation of educational material, we conducted an experiment in which students participated in the initial stage of training. A questionnaire was conducted on the question of the need to use the mother tongue in the classroom on the Russian language. It was concluded that the purposeful use of the mother tongue plays an important role in learning Russian at the initial stage of training in a Chinese audience.
