The paper considers examples of solving the problems of conducting space-monitoring observations based on the use of the geoinformation environment of the water areas of river basins. Its creation involves the con-struction of geospatial models of territories and object-oriented models of the studied processes and objects. The choice of the territory is determined by the place of the project implementation. The availability of a pri-ori geospatial information about the sources of hazardous natural and man-caused processes makes it possi-ble to carry out space monitoring of their state, regardless of their location and accessibility. Modern geoin-formation technologies make it possible to build situational and monitoring models of their state in case of emergencies and develop a set of measures to minimize damage from their impact. The paper presents exam-ples of building geoinformation models of river water areas, as well as the results of interpretation of satellite images of emergency situations that took place in the water area of Russian rivers and Lake Maracaibo (Ven-ezuela).
