Foreign language learners can gain a lot by reading authentic texts, and reading tasks play an important role in any foreign language lesson. Reading tasks assist foreign language instructors in achieving a wide range of goals as they advance students’ reading comprehension skills, develop their soft skills, expand their horizons, and, of course, improve their foreign language skills. Since foreign language textbooks tend to use similar tasks from unit to unit, it is necessary to diversify reading tasks now and then to make students interested in reading. This article gathers examples of different reading activities that increase students’ motivation and gives practical advice on how to implement them successfully in a foreign language lesson.

Foreign language lessons do not only develop students’ language skills, but also expand students’ horizons, nurture tolerance, generate desire for learning, and activate critical thinking. Besides, they can forster students’ curiosity and creative thinking. As Edward de Bono once said, “There is no doubt that creativity is the most important human resource of all. Without creativity, there would be no progress, and we would be forever repeating the same patterns.” [2]. This article defines creativity and highlights the importance of sparkling creative thinking among students. Apart from that, this article is the author’s reflection on the creative narrative writing lesson, which was implemented at the Institute of Foreign Languages of Petrozavodsk State University.

This study examines the introduction of an unconventional approach to final chemistry lessons in secondary school, which aims to increase teaching effectiveness and student engagement. For this purpose, an analysis of the relevant literature was carried out, an unconventional method was identified, and appropriate material was selected for theoretical and experimental research. An unconventional method of Design thinking was chosen for the research. Pedagogical practice has demonstrated a high level of knowledge acquisition in both types of classes, which proves the value of systematic chemical thinking. The study offers a new perspective on the development of students' creative abilities using non-standard methods. It is also aimed at improving academic performance, deepening knowledge of chemistry and activating cognitive interests with the help of developed non-standard approaches in the final lessons.
