Hydrophobization of thermal insulation materials based on basalt (stone) fiber and boards is aimed at reducing water absorption, increasing the durability, thermal protection, and operational characteristics of products. In recent decades, the development and implementation of effective hydrophobizing emulsions have become one of the key challenges in materials science and construction chemistry, as natural and operational factors (moisture, freezing-thawing cycles, and mechanical stress) significantly reduce the energy efficiency and service life of thermal insulation. This article summarizes modern approaches to hydrophobization of basalt/stone slabs and mineral wool products, describes the types of emulsions and their composition, and provides information on the application areas and relevance of these technologies at the current stage.
The construction sector in Moscow, which is actively developing as part of renovation programs and the construction of modern residential complexes, places high demands on the quality and safety of the materials used. One of the key components that provide thermal and sound insulation, as well as fire safety for buildings, is basalt board, or stone wool. This non-combustible insulation material, which is produced from the melting of rocks, is in high demand. However, the journey from raw material extraction to the finished product on the construction site is a complex process that depends on the geographical location of the quarries and production facilities. This article provides an analysis of regional specialization and supply of basalt thermal insulation for the Moscow region.
